At the last general meeting, 42 members cast votes for the office of President. Three candidates were nominated: Bill Ranney (PW), Gary Gillespie (EPL), and Chris Jeffress (PWW). Per AFSCME Local 1724 constitution, vacancies of office are filled by the majority vote at the meeting following the vacancy. With a majority vote of 29, Gary Gillespie was elected President for the remaining term. President Gillespie?s acceptance of this office leaves the office of Vice President vacant. Nominations for the vacant position of Vice President will be held at the next AFSCME Local 1724 general meeting on April 13, 2010. Nominees for the office must be a member in good standing for a minimum of one year and either be present to accept the nomination or have a written record of acceptance of the nomination.
